I have lost count the number of trigger jobs I have done on the Glock’s. I would say my favorite trigger connector to use in my trigger jobs, other than the factory 3.5 lb connector would be the Ghost Ultimate. You can tell it is a quality piece by its looks alone although I still polish and de bur it before it is installed. The self cleaning groove is great for the shooter who doesn’t completely disassemble their trigger housing when cleaning and it really does seem to smooth out the pull. It gives you a better trigger reset that you can both feel and hear. I have yet to have a problem with any ghost connector which is more than I can say for some of the other brands. So if you’re looking for a good 3.5 lb connector you can’t miss with the Ghost Ultimate. Remember you can click on the image for a larger view.

I am often asked the difference between a Remington 870 express home defense shotgun and The Remington 870 police shotgun. Other than the higher end milled receiver and aluminum trigger plate assembly it is pretty easy to bring your 870 express up to par with an 870 Police. I have a small kit that consists of ; a heavier sear spring, heavier carrier dog follower spring, machined extractor and a heavier duty magazine follower spring and follower. Listed below are some of the differences between the two shotguns.

The 870 Express Model has:
A plastic trigger plate assembly
Dimples in the magazine tube and the new style plastic magazine retention system, EXCEPT on the extended magazine versions, which do NOT have the dimples
A rougher finish inside and outside, with some additional machine marks
A rougher, bead blasted parkerization
A less polished bore
Hardwood or synthetic stock, with a sporting-length fore end and pressed-in checkering
The Defense version has 18″, Cylinder bore barrel, with a bead sight
The Marine Magnum and Tactical models have plated or polymer finishes
Metal Injection Molded (MIM) extractor

The 870 Police has:
An aluminum trigger plate assembly
The old style magazine retention system
A much smoother finish inside and out, no machine marks or burrs
The Police gun receives a higher level 23 point inspection and finishing built in a special area of the plant for police models only
A military-grade parkerized finish
A polished bore
A one piece barrel
Walnut or synthetic stock, with a short police-length fore end
The Remington “R3” super recoil pad that reduces felt recoil by 54%
Choices in different stocks, including Speed-feed, and others
18″ improved cylinder barrel, with a wider choice of sights, including rifle, ghost ring, and luminous
Police options like magazine extenders, forearms with built-in lights, and sling swivels
Heavier-duty magazine spring.
Heavier-duty trigger-sear spring (older model police only)
New police models have same sear spring as all remington shotguns
Heavier-duty carrier dog spring
Sling swivel mounts
No use of MIM parts, the extractor is milled steel

I have posted a picture of my 870 reliability upgrade kit. With the parts in this kit you can upgrade your 870 Express home defense to have similar reliability than that of the 870 police. The kit contains a wolf heavy duty magazine spring, scattergun technology follower, heavy duty sear spring (8 pound), heavy duty carrier dog spring and a machined steel extractor. I sell the kits for $48.99 + shipping.

When somebody asks me what I should do to my shotgun one of my first suggestions would be to add ghost ring sights. For many shooters, myself included, the ghost ring sight is one of the fastest type of sights for target acquisition. It is fairly accurate, easy to use, and obscures the target less than nearly all other non optical sights. Because of this, ghost ring sights are commonly installed on combat shotguns. In my opinion the ghost ring sight is the fastest and easiest to use shotgun sight available.

Staked Front Sight

My favorite ghost ring sight is made by Scattergun Technologies. It requires drilling and tapping of the receiver for the rear sight and the front sight is epoxyed on over the existing bead sight at the front of the barrel. I usually go a step further on my installs and stake the front sight through the bead sight so it doesn’t fall off during heavy use.

If you are thinking about having these sights installed on your Remington 870 or 11-87 or just have questions feel free to e-mail me or give me a call. The sights usually run around $115 to $150 dollars from Brownells and I charge $75.00 to install them, that includes stakeing the fron sight.

The safety is a manually engaged safety lever that helps prevent unintentional discharges. It actually blocks the trigger movement allowing the slide to be cycled and the pistol loaded or unloaded with the safety on. It does all that without effecting any of the integrated Glock safeties’. One thing to keep in mind though, the safety requires a small cut in the frame, once installed you can remove the safety if you want but the cutout will always be there.

I normally average three to four safeties a year but for some reason I have done 12 installs in the last three months alone. I have added some photos of installs on a Glock 23 and a Glock 27 below. If you decide to go with one of the Cominolli safeties I would definitely recommend you have a qualified Gunsmith do the install. Even if you purchase the jig you can still hack your frame up pretty easy.

I am doing all of the setup so if you notice any bloopers please feel free to let me know.
